I am not exactly sure how I got to know Matt Cusson, but suffice it to say I think very highly of this music maker and am excited about his beautiful new “It’s Christmas Time” EP. Available online at places like amazon and iTunes, the EP has four jazzy piano-based recordings:
1- It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
2- Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
3- Christmas Time Is Here
4- The Christmas Song (Chestnuts…)
Having met Matt Cusson at a concert or two in New York City, I loved that he and I both drank Red Bull, and it was fun to sit down, chat, and eat New York-style pizza with him. He’s the kind of person others like to hang out with– down-to-Earth and friendly.
Cusson’s main claim to fame is that he was mentored by none-other-than soul balladeer Brian McKnight– and if you like tender R&B music sung in a high register, the kind of music a guy sings to make a girl feel loved, then you will appreciate Cusson’s warm vocal tone. He’s toured with McKnight, and shared the stage with notables like James Taylor, Stevie Wonder, Babyface, Christina Aguilera, and The Voice’s Javier Colon, who is one of his best friends. He also attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he played music with John Mayer!
Matt Cusson is no joke– he is an “in demand” singer and pianist. And he won a huge John Lennon songwriting contest for his original tune “One of Those Nights.” Yoko Ono interviewed him about the win here:
Here’s a video of Cusson winning the award:
Cusson is married to model Lisa Lakatos, who was one of the “Deal or No Deal” girls on TV. She’s a lively redhead, and he’s a humble, laid back guy from Western Massachusetts; they tied the knot in January of 2013.
If you like Christmas music, especially the kind you’d put on to relax by the fireside on a snowy winter evening, then don’t hesitate to get Matt Cusson’s “It’s Christmas Time” on iTunes today.
